Staatsloterij

Give Each Other Some Luck is a heartwarming New Year’s campaign for Dutch State Lottery (Staatsloterij), directed by Joseph Mann. The film follows a grumpy elderly neighbour, accompanied by his equally moody cat and a little dark cloud that mirrors his mood. When he sets out to return a misdelivered lottery ticket, unexpected acts of kindness from his neighbours gradually soften his outlook, celebrating human connection over the prospect of winning a jackpot.

Produced by Blinkink in collaboration with agency TBWA\NEBOKO, the film uses fully handcrafted stop-motion animation, with puppets, miniature sets and props built, textured, lit and animated by hand. Animation director Sam Gainsborough helped shape the characters’ performances, while dynamic camerawork and practical in-camera effects bring the miniature world to life. A delicate reinterpretation of Daniel Powter’s Bad Day, performed by Lorena Kirchhoffer, adds to the film’s emotional warmth.
